The 3rd Airborne Corps was an airborne corps of the Red Army in World War II. The corps was established near Kiev. == History == Formation of the corps began in spring 1941 in the Odessa Military District, with headquarters and the main part of the corps at Pervomaysk and the 212th Airborne Brigade at Voznesensk. In the first half of August 1941 the corps participated in the defense of Kiev, then, from the beginning of September, in the defense of Konotop. The 3rd Airborne Corps included: *headquarters *5th Airborne Brigade (commander - Colonel Alexander Rodimtsev) *6th Airborne Brigade (commander - Colonel Zholudev, Victor G.) *212th Airborne Brigade (commander - Colonel Zatevakhin, Ivan Ivanovich) *4th Separate Tank Battalion *separate anti-aircraft artillery battalion *logistics units In addition, it was suggested at the disposal of the body 250th and 327th Assault-Landing Bomber Aviation Regiments, intended for paradropping personnel,〔David Glantz, Stumbling Colossus, 148.〕 as well as the 719th Battalion of airfield support. However, due to the outbreak of war, these units did not join the corps.
